Calories Burned Swimming

First, convert your current weight to kilograms
By dividing by 2.2.

Example 150# person = 68.2 kilo

Here are the conversions, you'll have to decide how fast and intense you worked out. You can "piece meal" it and add it together or figure out what your average is.

The following numbers are based on ONE HOUR's worth of work.
Take that into consideration on how long the session is. After watching the Olympic Trials this year I was inspired.

Swimming (kind of), Playing, treading, some standing around
Use Kilo weight X 4.0 = calories per hour

Swimming, Playing, Throwing your kids around, not standing around
Use Kilo weight X 6.0 = calories per hour

Swimming Laps, freestyle, backstroke, breastroke, slow moderate effort
Kilo weight X 8.0 = calories per hour

Swimming Laps, Freestyle, backstoke, breaststoke
Fast vigorous effort
Kilo weight X 10.0 = calories per hour

Swimming Laps, Butterfly or other strokes full blown effort or race
Kilo weight X 11.0 = calories per hour

These factors I'm using are METS or metabolic equivalents determined by the American College of Sports Medicine
