Exercise Tip

Looking for a way to burn some additional calories this month? (In preparation for the holidays)

Look out at your lawns and gardens...do they need work?  Get out there and clean them up.  Just be careful to bend at your knees not your back.

Here's a list of how many calories your burn doing various fall activities. (Wait til you see what shoveling snow is next month - hope we don't have to do it though)

Weight = Calories burned per hour
Divide this number by 1/2 if you can only work for 30 minutes. It still counts!

Raking your lawn (Moderate Effort)
125 lbs = 227 calories per hour
150 lbs = 273 cals per hour
175 lbs = 318 cals per hour
200 lbs = 364 cals per hour
225 lbs = 409 cals per hour
250 lbs = 455 cals per hour
275 lbs = 500 cals per hour
300 lbs = 545 cals per hour

Gardening - Turning over beds, planting or transplanting bulbs
125 lbs = 284 cals per hour
150 lbs = 341 cals per hour
175 lbs = 398 cals per hour
200 lbs = 455 cals per hour
225 lbs = 511 cals per hour
250 lbs = 568 cals per hour
275 lbs = 625 cals per hour
300 lbs = 682 cals per hour

Congratulations, you burned some calories and spruced up your yard at the same time.  Now don't forget to stretch AFTERWARDS and drink a ton of water.
