Lisa Checking In
Thank you for all
the well wishes and positive brain energy for my CDE (Certified
Diabetic Educator) boards. This is a credentialing I have wanted
for years and have worked my butt off for (ok I wish it were that
easy). The exam was Saturday October 25th and there is a 6 week
delay in finding out how we all did. (by the end of this month/early
Dec I’ll know) The waiting is killing me!!
Everyone is asking me how it went-
I rocked on the clinical, nutritional, and pharmaceutical portion
of the exam, but so much of it was psych and philosophy and "pick
the best answer" when they were all right!!! VERY frustrating.
1/3 of the people walked out! For $350 I wasn't going to give
up and made sure to answer everything and double check every bubble,
all 200 of them.
It was like brain labor and birth without drugs. (though there
was a motrin bottle being passed around)
Aren't you glad you asked?
Continuous thanks to my intern Stephanie. She is helping me update
my handouts, prep charts, assist in presentations, and help with
the marketing aspect of my business. She’s wonderful!
Topics this month:
Recipe: Vegan/vegetarian green bean casserole
Exercise: Where the fuel comes from during exercise
Nutrition Tip: Guidelines for fake sweeteners
The questionnaire I use for my
new OA and OA/HOW clients is the Sept 08 nutrition tip of the
month or you can find in under the "Food Diary" icon
Note from Aug 08 Nutrition Tip (just go to the
archives)
This is a very powerful letter a recovering anorexic wrote to
her eating disorder (ED). It's beautifully done and painfully
honest. It will make you understand how this terrible disease
gets a grip on people and how hard they have to work to kick it
in the butt. I am also posting it as encouragement for others
who are struggling with eating disorders. This letter is used
with permission but kept anonymous.
Continuous hello's to all my new
Local, Out-Of-State, Canadian, Alaskan, Korean, Puerto Rican OA
and OA/HOW members! I've worked with over 300 of you now!
I’m enjoying all the accents and learning about your interesting
"local" foods.
By the way, I'm in the Detroit Area...and on EASTERN Time Zone.
Your before and after pictures are inspirations too!!! Keep em
coming!
How to access my archived tips:
For each tip of the month, scroll down to the bottom of that page...you'll
see the bold line then the word Nutrition, Exercise or Recipe
Archives...Just click on that and the titles of all my topics
for that category will show up. You can then click on the title
you’re interested in and my archived tip will come up. Some months
may be missing because I updated topics or redid some handouts
and they were re-posted.
Remember, I'm always looking for
ideas for my site!!!
If you've sent me emails and I
didn’t respond (I ALWAYS respond), call me and let me know 734-502-8264.
Once in a while I'm not getting them. I do not have spam protection
just to make sure I get everything that is incoming.
To FIND my email address, scroll
down to the bottom of this page. I'm hearing that people can't
find it.
We're all a work in progress.
Fitness and being healthy is a journey, not just an event.
Still working on making it a 'great
2008' and working on (celebrating?) my joining of the 40 club.
PS. Check out my "boys"
in the About Lisa Section.
I'll add some new photos from the 40th party soon and photos from
the "red wing painting days". Embarrass myself...why
not!
