I count these as extra calories or splurge calories.

While I am on the topic of alcohol, I have a wonderful book to recommend By Anne Fletcher MS, RD, called Sober For Good- New Solutions for Drinking Problems-Advice from Those Who Have Succeeded.

Get sober without AA. You can quit on your own. You do not have to call yourself an alcoholic. You may not have to quit altogether.

-- If you are considering a change in your drinking habits, there is no better place to start. -- A Thomas Horvath PhD past president American Psychological Association, Division of Addictions.

-- A must read for anyone concerned about their own or someone who has a drinking problem, as well as for health-care professional. -- Barbara McCrady PhD, clinical director, Center for Alcohol Studies, Rutgers University.

This is the same author who interviewed the people who lost weight and maintained it. Her book Thin For Life is about the masters who succeeded. This book, Sober For Good is about the masters who have figured out how to handle alcohol.

In my mind, this great read is very non-threatening and safe. It is for anyone who has ever struggled not to drink, coped with someone who has a drinking problem, or secretly wondered, -- Do I drink too much? --

Here is an example of questions the masters asked themselves.

Consider:

  1. Would life work better for me sober?
  2. Is my drinking pattern compatible with my values?
  3. What might I lost if I keep drinking?
  4. What do I want in life that alcohol keeps me from having?
  5. What might I get back if I give up drinking?

There is another list of about 30 questions to get your mind going. Let me know if you are interested and I will post them next month. I do not want to get preachy or anything on you. My husband was a Budweiser rep for 11 years! It is part of our life too! Just gotta work it in.
