I love Middle Eastern food. The following are easy dishes make typical Lisa-style. Start with a box or can and “doctor-it-up”. These dishes are also vegetarian so they are a great substitute for meat during lent. Both products are readily available at all grocery stores.
1. Near East ™ Taboule- Wheat Salad Mix
Follow the preparation instructions. Skip the olive oil step if desired to lower the fat content. This is a fat that won’t “hurt your heart” if you can afford the calories.
Add extra tomatoes and parsley to increase the veggie content and
phytonutrients.

2. Fantastic Foods ™ Original Hummus-
Creamy Middle Eastern garbanzo bean dip.
Follow directions on the box skipping or decreasing the olive oil if desired.
Add some extra garlic to jazz it up (it’s a bit bland to my taste without it)

Serve both of these on whole wheat pita, rolled up in whole wheat lavash/tortilla’s, on crackers or with veggies.
Nutritional information is on the box, before preparation with the oil.
